I love having dogs. I also love a clean home. Getting those two things to cooperate? That takes a little effort.
Between JuneBug, Duke, and everyday family life, there is always something happening on the floors. Dog hair, crumbs, and little paw prints have a way of making themselves comfortable right after you finish cleaning.
I want my home to feel cozy and welcoming, but I don’t want keeping it that way to take up my entire day. That’s why this cleaning lineup makes sense for me: an Ecovacs robot vacuum, a Dyson cordless vacuum, and a Bissell CrossWave.
They each have a different job. Here’s how I think about them—and how to decide which one belongs in your home.
Ecovacs: Everyday Floor Maintenance
The appeal of a robot vacuum is simple: help with the routine floor cleanup while you get on with your day.
In a home with dogs, loose hair doesn’t wait until your weekly cleaning day. An Ecovacs can be part of that everyday maintenance routine, especially in the areas where everyone spends the most time.
The job I give it: Keeping up with loose debris between more hands-on cleanups.
A robot vacuum still needs some attention. The floor needs to be clear enough for it to move around, and brushes and bins need regular care. I wouldn’t buy one expecting to forget about floor cleaning completely.
But if you’re constantly looking down and thinking, “Didn’t I just vacuum?” this is the category I’d consider first.

Dyson: The Quick Cleanup
There are plenty of messes that need attention right now: crumbs in a corner, hair along an edge, or a little trail of dirt by the door.
That’s where a cordless vacuum fits into this lineup. It’s the one to reach for when you want to handle a specific area and move on.
The job I give it: Targeted pickups and the spots that need a little extra attention.
For me, convenience matters. A cleaning tool has to be easy enough to grab that a small mess doesn’t become something I put off until later.
With a Dyson, check the attachments included with the exact model you’re buying. Different packages can come with different tools, so choose based on the surfaces and spaces you actually need to clean.
And remember that a cordless vacuum still needs charging, emptying, and maintenance. Easy to use doesn’t mean maintenance-free.

Bissell CrossWave: When the Floor Needs Washing
Sometimes the floor needs more than loose hair and crumbs picked up. Think paw prints and the everyday grime that builds up in a busy home.
The Bissell in this lineup is the CrossWave. Its role is floor washing, which gives it a different purpose from a regular vacuum.
The job I give it: Washing floors that are compatible with the exact CrossWave model.
Before using it, check both the machine’s instructions and your flooring manufacturer’s care guidance. I wouldn’t assume every floor can handle the same cleaning method.
The other thing to plan for is cleaning the machine afterward. With a floor washer, caring for the tank and brush is part of the job. That’s a tradeoff worth considering before you buy.
If your biggest frustration is a floor that looks dirty even after the loose debris is gone, this is the category to explore.

Do You Really Need All Three?
You don’t have to buy an entire cleaning lineup at once. Start with the mess that bothers you most.
- Loose hair and debris that keep coming back: Consider a robot vacuum for routine maintenance.
- Quick messes and areas that need hands-on attention: Consider a cordless vacuum.
- Paw prints and floors that need washing: Consider a floor washer, after checking compatibility.
There is some overlap between these machines. The value of having more than one comes down to your floors, your household, and how you like to clean.
If you’re starting from scratch, I’d begin with a versatile vacuum you’re comfortable using. Then decide whether automated maintenance or floor washing would make the biggest difference in your routine.
A Cleaner Home, With Room for Real Life
JuneBug and Duke are part of what makes our house feel like home. A little dog hair comes with the territory.
My goal is to make cleanup manageable so we can enjoy our home without every little mess becoming a project. These three categories give me a practical way to think about it: everyday maintenance, quick pickups, and floor washing.
If you’re shopping, take a look at the exact models linked above, compare what’s included, and choose the one that solves your biggest everyday frustration.
