I’m a millennial who loves some leggings, and I’m very comfortable admitting that. Add a cozy sweater and UGGs, and you’ve got an outfit I’m happy to spend the day in.
I also spend a lot of time in an ice rink cheering on my son. Leggings, warm layers, and comfortable shoes make sense when your plans include sitting through hockey and running errands afterward.
But I love fashion, too. I want to marry that comfort with a little style—to look in the mirror and feel good about what I’m wearing without spending the day adjusting it.
If you’re looking for cozy fall outfits with leggings and UGGs, these are five easy combinations to try. Take the ideas you like, use what’s already in your closet, and make them your own.

1. Brown Leggings, a Cream Sweater, and Chestnut UGGs
Chocolate or mocha leggings with a cream sweater and chestnut UGGs make such a pretty combination. I love how the warm colors work together, and a soft knit gives the outfit a little texture.
Choose a sweater that feels good on you. That might mean oversized and long, or a shorter sweater with a relaxed fit. You don’t have to wear a particular shape just because someone says it’s the most flattering.
This is an easy outfit for coffee, casual shopping, or a cozy afternoon at home. Add your favorite bag and you’re ready to go.
Make it yours: Prefer black leggings? Wear those. The cream sweater and chestnut shoes work with them, too.
2. Leggings and UGGs with a White Puffer Vest
A white puffer vest is one of my favorite ways to bring a little style into a comfortable outfit. Layer it over a sweater or sweatshirt with brown leggings, and you’ve got a simple combination with a little more personality.
It’s also a practical layer for going between errands and the rink. On colder hockey days, I’d bring a heavier coat and wear warm socks, too. I want to enjoy watching the game without thinking about how cold I am.
Make it yours: Try a cream, black, or olive vest if that’s what you own. There’s no need to buy a white one to make this outfit work.
3. A Cozy Hoodie, Leggings, and Your Favorite UGGs
Some days, I want a hoodie. Something soft that I can throw on and feel comfortable in immediately.
A brown hoodie with mocha leggings creates an easy coordinated look. A gray sweatshirt with black leggings is another combination I’d happily wear. Add UGGs, grab a tote, and head out.
For me, this is an outfit for the days that involve a little of everything: lounging, errands, and time at the rink.
Make it yours: Wear the hoodie you reach for most—even if it has your child’s hockey team on it. Your clothes can reflect your actual life.
4. Brown Leggings with a Long Cream Cardigan
A long cardigan is an easy way to change the feel of a leggings outfit.
Start with a comfortable top and brown leggings, then add a cream cardigan and chestnut UGGs. The longer layer adds movement, and you still get all the comfort of your everyday basics.
I like this idea for lunch, browsing shops, or an afternoon when I want to feel a little more dressed up.
Make it yours: If long cardigans feel bulky or get in your way, choose a shorter one. The best layer is the one you enjoy wearing.
5. A Sweatshirt-and-Leggings Outfit for Cold Rink Days
When I’m dressing for hockey, warmth has to be part of the outfit.
Start with comfortable leggings, add a roomy sweatshirt, and finish with UGG boots and warm socks. Bring a coat you can layer over everything when you need it.
A favorite bag or a pair of simple earrings can add a little style, but there’s no requirement to accessorize. Sometimes being warm, comfortable, and ready to cheer is plenty.
Make it yours: Choose shoes for the day ahead. If you’ll be walking a lot or heading out in wet weather, wear the pair that works best for those plans.
Wear What Makes You Feel Good
I enjoy outfit inspiration. I like seeing new color combinations and finding different ways to wear things I already own.
But I don’t want getting dressed to become another thing we’re worried about doing correctly.
If you love leggings, wear them. If UGGs make your feet happy, enjoy them. If your favorite comfortable outfit looks different from these, that’s okay, too.
You don’t need to retire something you love because a headline calls it “out.” You also don’t have to keep wearing something just because it’s popular.
At 40, I want clothes that feel good on my body and work for my life. For me, that includes leggings, cozy layers, and plenty of ice-rink time. Adding a little style is fun, but comfort gets a say every single time.
